ADENOCARCINOMA:
SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA EAR:
GENERAL: It may arise from any part of the skin and mucus membrane lined by Squamous epithelium, but is more likely to occur on sun-exposed parts in older people.
PRE-DISPOSING CONDITIONS:
- Xeroderma pigmentosum
- Solar keratosis
- Chronic inflammatory conditions (chronic ulcers, draining osteomyelitis)
- Old burn scars (Marjolin’s ulcer)
- Psoriasis
- Chemical burns
- HIV Infection
- Ionising radiation
- Industrial carcinogens (coaltar, oils)
- Chewing betel nut, tobacco-carcinoma of oral cavity
COMMON LOCATIONS:
- Face
- Pinna of ears
- Back of hands
- Mucocutaneous junction; lips, anal canal, glans penis
- Oesophagus
- Uterine cervix
Types:
- FUNGATING
- ULCERATING
- ULCEROPROLIFERATIVE
GROSSLY:
This is the cut and mount formalin fixed specimen of foot. The tumor is arising above the base of skin.Skin is hyper-pigmented. The tumor is either in the form of Nodular and Ulcerative growth, or Fungating and Polypoid masswithout ulceration.
The margin of the growth is Elevated and Indurated.
Cut surface shows Endophytic, as well as Exophytic tumor and is chalky white in colour.
